Publication of evaluation report on MRDH pilot grievance mechanism

We are pleased to announce the publication of our evaluation report of the Mecanismo de Reclamación de Derechos Humanos (MRDH), the multi-stakeholder grievance mechanism of the German automotive industry. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and conducted in cooperation with GIZ, the study provides a comprehensive analysis of the pilot phase of the MRDH in Mexico (2024–2025). The evaluation focuses in particular on accessibility, effectiveness, case handling, governance structures, and broader lessons learned for other mechanisms. It is based on interviews with stakeholders and rightsholders, field research in Mexico, workshops, and document analysis.

The findings show that the MRDH is an innovative and internationally noteworthy model for multi-stakeholder grievance mechanisms. At the same time, the evaluation study identifies areas for improvement and offers recommendations that could have further strengthened the sustainable implementation of the MRDH. Beyond the immediate context of the MRDH, these findings provide valuable insights for other grievance mechanisms in the field of Business, Human Rights and the Environment by offering concrete examples, approaches and strategies to support the ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of their effectiveness.

The evaluation report (in English) and additional MRDH documents can be found on the CSR-Website of the BMAS:
