What is Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is a worldwide voluntary activist movement working towards the observance of all human rights as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards. It does so by promoting human rights generally as well as taking action against specific abuses of human rights.

Amnesty International seeks to promote the observance of the full range of human rights, which it considers to be indivisible and interdependent, through campaigning and public awareness activities, as well as through human rights education and pushing for ratification and implementation of human rights treaties.

What do volunteers do?

  • Human rights research involves monitoring the local, regional and international press, as well as, more recently, the Internet for some countries or themes. This daily monitoring allows research teams to keep in touch with development in the country covered, feel the pulse of political and economic changes, and get information on possible human rights violations. Volunteers  are essential in helping process  this information.

  • In addition there are various smaller projects to help on within the team.

What do volunteers get out of it?

  • Travel expenses.
    • Lunch expenses ( minimum stay of 4 hours per day ).
    • Access to library facilities at Amnesty, International Secretariat.
    • The chance to be a part of a worldwide voluntary activist movement working towards the observance of all human rights.
  • Work experience in an International Human Rights organization recognised worldwide.
  • Free tea and coffee, meet lots of lovely people etc. etc.

So if you think you are interested and can make a commitment of 3 full days a week for at least the next three months write, please call or email us and we can send out an application form.
